After a paper mill operated for more than 100 years, it closed in Oregon City, Oregon.  A major project is underway to purify the run-off rainwater. The problem is the rainwater absorbs metal and other pollutants as it runs through old piping and across the mill’s galvanized roofs.

To solve this problem a 6-foot tall filter, comprised of compost-filled metal cages, was built to remove rainwater contaminates.

This process is desirable because it uses significantly less energy than other methods and makes the clean-up more environmentally friendly.
